I Job Purpose
The purpose of this role is to study the database environment, Identify areas that impact performance and availability and propose a new architecture. Assist Dubai Petroleum to setup high performance, highly available RDBMS platform. Perform database migrations, upgrades and consolidation. Develop guidelines for database administration duties within IT function based on industry’s best practices.
II Roles & Responsibilities:
· Proactively manage the databases on a daily basis, to ensure they operate at optimal performance and that database issues are identified and resolved as early as possible, across Production, Test and development environments.
· Support the IT implementation teams to ensure high availability of the databases.
· Administer and support Oracle 9i, 10g and SQL databases.
· Perform monitoring, tuning and capacity planning, backup and recoveries of databases.
· Responsible for the design, implementation and installation of new databases.
· Responsible for ensuring availability and performance of the databases.
· Responsible for providing trend analysis to the service management team to enable them to make informed decisions regarding resource management.
· Responsible for problem escalation to Oracle and SQL Development team and third parties as appropriate.
· Responsible for implementation and release of database changes as submitted by the development/application team.
· Document procedure documents in relation to the daily, weekly and monthly maintenance and administration of the databases in use.

Additional Qualitative Data:
In depth knowledge on RDBMS architectures and operating platforms. Proven experience on design and implementation of Oracle database systems. Well versed with Oracle RAC, Data Guard implementation on Solaris and Windows platforms.

Educational Qualifications & Experience Profile:
· Proven Oracle and SQL Database Administration experience.
· Experienced in managing multiple RDBMS on large systems
· Implementation experience of Oracle RAC and Data Guard on Solaris platform.
· Experienced in monitoring and tuning a database for performance and availability.
· Experience of other database systems, preferably SQL Server
· Experienced in database platform design, migration, upgrades and consolidation.
· Practical experience of Solaris and Windows operating systems.
· Practical experience in managing the database security
· Formal certification or qualifications in MS SQL Server and Oracle databases
Competencies/Skills/Others:
· Advanced Oracle, MS SQL Server and MS Access knowledge and skills.
· Background including provision of training and development of process documentation.
· Knowledge of ITIL framework.
· Strong understanding of Windows and Unix environments.
